New USB flash drive from Kingston : Kingston Technology Company announced the DataTraveler Micro Reader, an all-in-one USB Flash drive and reader that can store, transfer and read content on mobile memory cards. “As mobile phones perform more sophisticated functions, carving a greater place in the lives of mobile consumers, Kingston is developing faster speed/larger capacity cards and versatile USB/card/device readers to help users get the most out of their devices,” said Jean Wong, Flash memory product manager, Kingston.

Ricoh drops resilient G600 into market
Ricoh, living up to its reputation for interesting niche digital cameras, has launched the G600 water and dust resistant model. The G600 is smaller than the 500G Wide it replaces but still offers a versatile 28-140mm equivalent lens with 1cm closest focusing distance. Its rugged casing conforms to all manner of US defense and Japanese standards (including the ability to survive being immersed in water for half an hour), meaning you should never have to worry about carrying it with you.

LaCie have introduced a 500Gb version of the portable Rugged Hard Disk, which features a scratch-resistant aluminum shell and shock-resistant rubber bumper. Using an Hitachi Travelstar 5K500, 2.5-inch internal hard disk, the 500GB Rugged Hard Disk is bus-powered by either USB or FireWire and available in either USB 2.0 or a USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 version. The LaCie Rugged 500GB version is available now for $299.99.

Panasonic Unveils Lumix DMC-TZ50 WiFi Camera

Panasonic has introduced a new 9.1-megapixel compact camera with built-in WiFi connectivity. The Lumix DMC-TZ50 offers an optically stabilized f/3.3-4.9, 28mm-280mm (35mm equivalent) 10x Leica DC Vario-Elmar zoom lens; a 460,000-dot, 3-inch LCD that automatically adapts its brightness as ambient light levels change; and 802.11b/g wireless connectivity for connecting to home wireless networks and T-Mobile HotSpots. The camera interface provides tools for uploading photos directly to Google Picasa Web Albums, and for browsing online albums.

The 24-70mm f/2.8 full-frame zoom is becoming the general-purpose standard for news, wedding, portrait, landscape, and event pros. (Everyone, in other words, except sports and close-up photographers.) Canon, Nikon, and Sigma all offer superb examples. Sony’s outstanding new entry ($1,750, street) isn’t based on any earlier Sony, Zeiss, or Konica Minolta designs, but — as the blue logo indicates — was codeveloped with Zeiss, and it paves the way for Sony’s soon-to-be-unveiled 24MP pro flagship DSLR.

Canon Introduces Pixma iP100 Mobile Printer

Canon has introduced a new portable inkjet printer. The 4.4-pound Pixma iP100 Mobile Printer outputs photos with a maximum 9600×2400 dpi resolution and a 1 picoliter minimum droplet size. Although it measures just 12.7×2.4×7.2 inches, it can print at sizes up to 8.5×11 inches.

Nikon firms up D3 feature set
Nikon has released updated firmware for its flagship D3 DSLR. The firmware adds vignetting control for most G and D type lenses, and the ability to specify faster minimum shutter speeds to trigger Auto ISO. As well as these headline changes are a number of obscure feature tweaks and corrections. The new firmware is available immediately from Nikon’s website.
